Delhi’s as of 2023 population is estimated at a whooping 32,941,309. In 1950, the population of Delhi was 1,369,369. Delhi has grown by 875,549 in the last year, which represents a 2.73% annual change. It is also the fifth most populous city in the world and the largest city in India area-wise. It covers an area exceeding 1,000 square kilometres and has one of the highest population densities in the world as well. The largest Ethnic group is Indo-Aryan, estimated at a 72 percent. The survey also highlighted that about one-third of Delhi’s population lives in substandard housing, which includes 675 slums, 1,797 unauthorised colonies and old dilapidated areas, and also 362 villages. These areas often lack safe adequate housing and basic services.
